Today, Kiawah has two “ownership entities”: The Kiawah Island Golf Resort and Kiawah Partners. Read MoreĪfter decades of sustainable and conscientious environmental growth, Kiawah Island was sold in 2013 to South Street Partners, an investment group located in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1974, the virtually untouched island was sold to the Kuwaiti Investment Company who designed and developed Kiawah Island Resort, an opulent inn with two swimming pools, a restaurant, and a Gary Player championship golf course. The prime property exchanged hands several times but remained rich farmland, harvesting everything from vegetables and livestock to indigo and cotton. Eventually, the Lord Proprietors granted 2,700-acre island to Captain George Raynor a reformed pirate turned businessman and politician.

Initially inhabited by the friendly Kiawah Indians, European settlers claimed the region in 1675 through a barter deal with the natives. Depending on the property type, lot size, and view, homes for sale in Kiawah range in price from more than $12 million for an oceanfront mansion to less than $200,000 for a one bedroom, one bath tennis villa. Real estate here also includes condos, villas, and townhomes, many of which are situated along the meticulous, rolling fairways.

These homes range from luxurious custom estates to cute coastal cottages.

Real estate on Kiawah Island includes magnificent homes and estates with views of the Atlantic Ocean, Intracoastal Waterway, Casseque River, tidal marsh, golf course, or nature preserve. Kiawah Island is a charming coastal retreat located just 28 miles south from historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina.
